This course emphasizes understanding over memorization. Instead of teaching one “correct” way to play, students learn how to evaluate positions, adjust plans, and respond thoughtfully to different game situations. The outcome is a more confident, flexible player who can think independently and apply core principles in real games.

Students can join at the beginning of any month and follow the progressive curriculum at their own pace.

Players build strong fundamentals by learning how pieces work together, how to stay safe, and how to start games with purpose. Lessons focus on piece activity, king safety, center control, and basic positional ideas, with guided games and feedback to reinforce healthy habits. Students are introduced to the Ruy Lopez opening as a model for principled play.

Players shift toward planning and strategy in the middlegame while learning how to recognize and fix common positional mistakes. Instruction includes long-term thinking, practical decision-making, and essential endgames that every player needs in real games.

Players learn how to turn advantages into wins by connecting opening, middlegame, and endgame ideas. The month includes essential endgame technique, tournament standards and etiquette, and a full tournament-style simulation to prepare players for competitive play.
