The event features a one-hour instructional session led by local chess coach James Stripes, a respected Spokane-based chess coach and author with over 25 years of experience teaching players of all ages and skill levels. His students have consistently ranked among the top performers in the region, and he has directed nearly 200 youth tournaments, including two state championships with over 1,000 participants each.
